Your step by step roadmap to drive the culture and capabilities of your IT organisation from a reactive technology focused team to consultative business focused team that drives strategic and organisational value.

The IT Maturity Curve model is based on our work with over 3,000 IT organisations and an in-depth year long analysis with 131 CIO’s of high performing organisations.

A Stage 1 IT organisation is focused on and good at delivering the fundamentals.

At Stage 1, the view of IT by the rest of the organisation is that of a supplier.  In addition to delivering technical requirements on a consistent basis, there are 2 critical capabilities of being successful at Stage 1:

  1. Workshop Achieving IT Service Excellence:  Building A Culture of Service Excellence

  2. WorkshopFlawless Project Execution:  The Art and Science of Project Management

Outcome:  The organisational contribution of a Stage 1 IT organisation is reliable delivery of the fundamental technologies that are needed to run on a day by day basis. At this point, IT has established the credibility and reputation required to progress to Stage 2. Watch our videos here.

A Stage 2 IT organisation is that of a solution provider.

IT and the organisation will engage early in the development of a new project or initiative.  The organisation will have a goal or objective that it is attempting to achieve and IT will be brought in to provide input and guidance on how to best deliver it.  IT will understand the objectives from an organisational and business perspective and then provide approaches on how to use technology to achieve those objectives. The key capabilities required of a successful Stage 2 IT organisation are:

  1. WorkshopConsultative IT: Building Trusted Partner Relationships

  2. WorkshopMarketing IT Value

  3. WorkshopInfluence and Negotiation for IT Professionals

Outcome:  The organisational contribution of a Stage 2 IT organisation is improved effectiveness and efficiency as IT uses technology to assist in the achievement of organisational goals. Read our articles here.

A Stage 3 IT organisation is that of a Strategic Partnership between IT and the rest of the organisation.

IT sets goals, strategies and objectives in conjunction with the organisation.  The idea of “IT aligning with the business” is in the past and IT understands, operates and thinks from “We are the business.”  Having IT involved from the onset of new projects and initiatives has the organisation receiving value and impact faster, along with solutions that would not have been possible before.  The capabilities required to be successful at Stage 3 are:

  1. Workshop: Leading IT with Vision and Purpose

  2. Workshop: Leading Change Across IT and The Enterprise

  3. Workshop: Managing Vendor Partnerships:  Driving Strategic Value

Outcome:  A true partnership is allowing the business to achieve organisational goals, objectives and outcomes in new and better ways due to IT. Click here to see our articles.

A Stage 4 IT organisation is one where we refer to IT as an “Innovative Anticipator.”

In this stage, IT understands the organisation’s future strategies and objectives so well that they can take on a leadership role.  IT will take the lead and initiative in bringing new ways of achieving organisational results due to its unique position of being able to combine its high level of technical and organisational understanding.  IT is driving strategy in new and innovative ways.

The elements required to be successful at Stage 4:

  1. WorkshopCreating an Agile, Adaptable and Innovative Organisation

  2. WorkshopSharpen Your Savvy:  Navigating Organisation Politics

Organisational Outcome: Game changing and highly impactful value through innovative, strategic and forward thinking solutions. Click here to watch our videos.

To advance from one stage to the next, IT must be solid at delivering in the current level and continue to do so while increasing its capacity to operate at the next level.  Typical organisations will have people and/or teams at each level.  The IT organisation progresses when a critical mass of the IT team operates at the next level.
